Dress Up Your Purse Paris 15 Satchel Crossbody Bag Review

When it comes to accessorising, the right purse can make all the difference. Dress Up Your Purse (DUYP) has introduced the Paris 15, a piece that promises to elevate your outfit with its chic design and practical features. Here’s a comprehensive review of this stylish handbag.

Why I Chose DUYP

While researching for a brown handbag and an evening statement piece, I came across the Paris 15 from DUYP. The Paris 15 closely resembles the Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis, but offers distinct differences that piqued my interest, which I’ll go into more detail below. The idea of it was so appealing that I didn’t hesitate to preorder it, even if it meant waiting for 12 whole weeks. The wait was so excruciating that I stalked DUYP‘s Facebook page for production updates almost daily.

Design

The purse is made from Togo leather, which is known for its durability and slightly pebbled texture, giving it a luxurious feel. Unlike some other high-end bags, the Paris 15 has less glazing and more stitched-in details, which adds to its robustness and distinctive look. Available in several colour combinations, it’s designed to complement a variety of styles, from casual daywear to more formal evening attire.

Key Design Features:

  • Material: Premium Togo leather that offers a luxurious and durable option.
  • Hardware: Gold-tone accents that add a touch of opulence.
  • Closure: Flap closure with a clasp, similar to the Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis. This type of closure can be finicky to open and close, especially if the bag is at capacity or almost completely empty. The clasp plate has embedded ridges to reduce scratching, enhancing its longevity.
  • Straps: Two adjustable straps are included, one cotton and one leather, providing flexibility and comfort. I appreciate the choice of straps, allowing for a more casual look with the cotton strap or a more polished appearance with the leather strap.
  • Construction: Less glazing and more stitched-in details, enhancing durability and aesthetic appeal.

In addition to the standard size, the Paris 15 is also available in a micro size and a petit size/east-west style.

What Fits Inside

In terms of what it fits, the Paris 15 can fit daily essentials well, but compared to the Charlotte Elizabeth Bloomsbury Crossbody Handbag in Chestnut (see review here), my previous everyday bag, the Paris 15‘s compartmentalised design meant that I had to consider the shape of my items more so. This meant forgoing my Dress Up Your Purse Togo Leather Medium Envelope in Grey that I had as well as replacing my Furla Camelia S Compact Wallet with a cardholder such as the Dress Up Your Purse Black Epsom Leather Corsica Card Holder and a Dress Up Your Purse Dream Collection Lambskin Leather Mini Envelope for cash.

Despite what some might claim, I don’t think it has the capacity to serve as a mum bag. It can’t carry wet wipes, nappies, plus all other daily essentials unless one defines daily essentials as the bare minimum, being keys, a cardholder and a phone that’s not too big.

Due to being made almost entirely of leather, the bag is heavier than the Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis, especially at capacity, which might be a consideration for those who prefer lighter bags.

Wear and Tear

A great purse isn’t just about looks; it needs to withstand daily wear and tear. The Paris 15 scores high in this department. The Togo leather is not only stylish but also resistant to scratches and scuffs. The quality hardware is robust, ensuring that clasps and other components function smoothly over time.

Durability Features:

  • Scratch-Resistant: The Togo leather material is designed to resist everyday scratches.
  • Reinforced Stitching: Ensures that the purse holds up well with regular use.
  • Water-Resistant: Offers some protection against spills and light rain.

When I received the bag, I noticed a strange but minor crease that’s visible depending on the lighting. Additionally, the vachetta handle had a wrinkle where it connects with the body of the bag. These are minor drawbacks, as they are mostly concealed and don’t significantly impact the overall look or functionality.

After a month of use, I observed that the bottom corner of the glazing is a bit worn, possibly due to rubbing against something regularly, though I’m not entirely sure why.

Overall Experience

The Dress Up Your Purse Paris 15 has proven to be a versatile, stylish, and functional accessory that deserves a spot in your collection. Its design is timeless, its functionality is thoughtful, and its durability ensures it will be a staple for years to come. Whether you’re treating yourself or looking for the perfect gift, the Paris 15 is a smart choice.
